Thieves Are Weird
I got a bit of a surprise this morning when I went to get into my car. The drivers side door was slightly ajar. I immediately started to ask myself "did I actually forget to close the door last night?" Fully opening the door confirmed I haven't quite lost my faculties yet. The glove box, arm rest stowage and dash/ash tray compartments were all flung open and the contents scattered across the drivers seat. Somebody had broken into my car while it sat in my own driveway.
What strikes me as weird is the thief made off with with around $5.00 in Canadian Tire money! I don't keep loose change in the car, and I've even started keeping my insurance and registration with me so they didn't have a lot to be gained from raiding my car. However the list of things deemed unworthy of theft seemed a bit odd:
- Toronto Road Map Book. (OK. I guess the thief knew where they were)
- A nice dressy pair of mens black leather gloves. (I've always thought these epitomized cat-burgler style, but I guess I missed the mark.)
- Dangle Mike Cell Phone Hands-Free Thingy. (This is completely useless so I agree with the burgler on this one)
- A collection of fantastic CDs. (I realize ipods and downloading have rendered these largely value-less but my taste is offended)
- The kicker to me. A $20 gift certificate to Rona. If you're going to steal my $5 stash of Canadian Tire money why pass up $20 at Rona? Does this thief have something against the Quebec based retailer?
